The Lost One

Before he steps outside the front door
he leaves himself behind at home.
He shows up without himself at the cafe.
There sits his daughter,
who is no longer his daughter.

„“Would you like some chocolate cake and a cup of cocoa?“ he asks.
„No thanks,“ she says.
„No, you've grown so big. Would you like some coffee?“
„I only drink green tea,“ she says.
„I see,“ he says, lowers his gaze, thinking:
„What a relief that I am still at home.“

But when he comes back home
it appears that he has gone.
He walks towards the window
looks into the garden
and sees himself lying out there
in the layers of darkness:
The Lost One.

Meinvill í myrkrunum lá.

Áður en hann stígur út um útidyrnar
skilur hann sjálfan sig eftir heima.
Hann mætir án sín á kaffihúsið.
Þar situr dóttir hans, sem er ekki lengur dóttir hans.

„Viltu súkkulaðiköku og kakóbolla?“
spyr hann.
„Nei, takk,“ segir hún.
„Nei, þú ert orðin svo stór. Viltu kaffi?“
„Ég drekk bara grænt te,“ segir hún.
„Nú, já,“ segir hann, lútir höfði og hugsar með sér: „Gott að ég er heima.“

En þegar hann kemur heim
er hann víst farinn.
Hann gengur að glugganum,
horfir út í dimman garðinn
og sér að þarna liggur hann í myrkrunum: Meinvillinn.
